The Expected Sparks in 2011:

2010 was the year of shame. The dirty visceral in India's politics, bureaucracy, and judiciary was ripped open with the likes of A.Raja, Adarsh Society, or Binayak Sen being silenced for exercising his freedom. Ratan Tata almost branded India a banana republic. With the nation's natural resources like mines, spectrum, and land etc being prostituted by the dallals and the people in the government, no one bothered to see what was happening down the administration at the grassroots. The story down here was even uglier. We saw customs, port authorities, and municipalities etc joining in the orgy to harass the honest law abiding citizen, while cozying up with the dishonest.

The aam admi is not only entertained by the high octane drama at the top, but also equally angered and embittered down the line. He wants change. He demands good governance and is not swayed by the beguiling GDP growth. 2011 will see the deliverables spelt out. I am not sure, how much limelight we will get into our shipping industry, mired with the retrograde forms of policy deformities, red tapes, bad planning, and state controls. However, the heat is on the government to deliver. It no longer can hide and fool the people in the old fashioned ways, under the garb of helping the poor. There would be policy changes to start with. These policy changes shall be 'pro-change'.  Though nothing much would  directly benefit, the cosmetic changes would nevertheless divert the public attention to the system of administration. And that would be a big step forward. So far, for any problem or scam, a scapegoat is sacrificed by the government. That satisfies the public, while the government is basically fooling them by hiding the real mess of a system behind the scene. The Kalmadis and A Rajas are just the fronts of the ugly system. By pulling down the front, the system of waste, sloth, inefficiency, unaccountability, corruption and decadence does not melt away. This realization of the public shall be a giant step forward from the spoils of 2010. Wishing all a happy and prosperous year and decade ahead.
